Why is water in the Sea salty?

River water washes salt out of the rocks that make up its bed. Further, the river water enters the world's oceans.

The world's rivers add on sixteen millionth of salt to the world's oceans each year.

The water then evaporates, falling as precipitation back onto the land to add another pinch of salt to the ocean again.
